What Are the real advantages of rooting the galaxy nexus?

I've been reading about rooting, and adding roms to my device for some time now. but through me reading about it i still cant find an absolute reason why is in my benefit to root/ add roms to my nexus. also is it possible to go back to a truly stock device once it's been done?

There are several reasons to root/customize your device. Some of the primary benefits is the ability to delete bloatware (apps installed by your provider that are "protected" from deletion), and improved battery life.
Yes its possible to unroot your device and go back to the stock ROM. Just make sure you backup everything before proceeding.
